Changes to our Curriculum
from September 2011
From September 2011 we have made some changes to our curriculum which has allowed us to concentrate on new and different topics this Autumn term. We were obviously concerned about the riots that occurred in Haringey over the summer and felt that we should do some work with all our children around their social identity, their place in society and of course their rights and responsibilities. Loads more information about the topics can be obtained through the curriculum newsletters for each year group but below is a snap-shot of which each year group will be doing this term.
We have therefore introduced new topics this term;
AUTUMN TERM (First Half) Sept - Oct
Year One: “People who help us” – Looking at the emergency services, public sector workers and those people that work in the service industry and help us. We plan visits from the fire brigade and the community police.
Year Two: “Heroes” – Looking at significant people in our society and wider world who have changed history by their actions. People we look up to as leaders and why.
Year Three: “Rights & Responsibilities” – Looking at what our rights and responsibilities are in school, in our families and within the wider society.
Year Four: “Staying safe” – Looking at staying physically safe from danger but also exploring using the internet and staying safe on-line in this world of advancing technology. Teaching children about social networking and the dangers involved.
Year Five: “Democracy” – The children are setting up their own country establishing laws and setting up their own democracy. Making choices about rights, wrongs and implementing sanctions.
Year Six: “Me & My World” – Looking at the wider world and our place within it. Talking about our social identity and how we fit into the world and how we can influence change.
AUTUMN TERM (Second Half)
This half term all the topics are Science specifically designed around the management of materials. The teaching elements are very skills based and we are deliberately not dictating exactly what the topic should be about - we will let the children choose. watch this space for more details ........

Keeping in touch!
Newsletters are sent to parents/carers every two weeks giving brief details of forthcoming school events. The class teachers also sends out curriculum newsletters at the start of each half term letting parents know what themes and topics the children will be learning. You can download copies of all newsletters from our website. We are also committed to making sure our webiste is up dated regularly and we hope you will be able to find all the school news through the site.
Communication is very important to us and we are always looking at ways to keep parents better informed - In October 2010 we introduced a new text messaging service for parents and carers. This means we are able to text you a reminder when key events such as your child's class assembly or weekend community events are happening - so you don't miss anything. It is obviously important that you let us know if your contact details change.
The Governors are also committed to ensuring they keep you informed. On the calander of this webiste you will find the dates of all their meetings and all parents are wlecome at their meetings. In September 2011 Governors are introducing an annual meeting and report for parents. We hope this meeting will help you keep up todate with what the governors are doing in our school.
Please let us know if you have any ideas or suggestions which could improve communication
