Home Learning
Dear Parents,
At school the children find our visual timetable very useful as a way of keeping track of the day. We turn over each card when we have finished that part of the day.
We suggest that making a visual timetable at home might be a good first activity. A timetable which would echo our day would be as follows:
Word of the Day |
We will share the word of the day on a daily basis via Tapestry. Talk about this word and what is means. Try to use it in a sentence and then try to use it as much as possible during the day. |
Literacy |
We would usually do a carpet/group time for this part of the day, often with a follow up activity. We will share a daily plan for this. |
Creative free play |
Anything from art activities to role play or construction. Uninterrupted time for some creative play would be great. |
Phonics |
Complete a phonics based activity. We will share a daily plan for this. |
Lunch |
|
Physical free play |
Physical activities outside if possible or there are some great youtube channels to dance along to. We recommend ‘Koo Koo Kangaroo’, ‘GoNoodle’ and ‘Cosmic Kids Yoga’. Fine motor activities are also good like using scissors or making things with playdough (recipe on the class pages). |
Complete the Calendar |
Maybe you could make a calendar like the one we have in class. We have a days of the week song you could sing or just talk about what day it is today. |
Maths |
We would usually do a carpet/group time for this part of the day. We will share a daily plan for this. |
Creative free play |
Anything from art activities to role play or construction. Uninterrupted time for some creative play would be great. |
Singing and Stories |
Read at least two stories to your child and enjoy singing some songs together. We recommend the Singing Hands UK youtube channel which has Makaton signed songs. |
Scope for PSED (Personal, Social and Emotional Development) may be limited in isolation but we recommend using this opportunity to focus on discussing emotions and talking about how we are feeling. Lunchtime or the end of the day might be good times for this depending on your child.
The plans for the Literacy, Maths and Phonics activities will be uploaded to this page each week.
We will be sharing information through Tapestry so please make sure that you login regularly.
We will be thinking of you lots in these difficult times. Look after yourselves and keep in touch.
Love from the Reception Team
