Welcome

Welcome to Chestnuts Primary School

Chestnuts is a two form entry primary school in Haringey North London. Our school website aims to give you a taster of the school, as well as providing regular updated information for parents, friends, pupils and staff.

At Chestnuts we are fully committed to working with parents to give children the very best start in their education as well as supporting children to be well-rounded individuals and good citizens in the future.  We have high expectations of everyone in our community ensuring we effectively work together to ensure children reach their potential in all areas of their personal development and learning.

Parental involvement is a massive part of our school. We like and look forward to adults coming into the school to share their skills, knowledge and experiences. We hold regular weekend community events; we have an incredibly supportive Parent School Association and a very active Somali and Turkish parent group.

At Chestnuts we are not afraid to try new and exciting initiatives. In September 2012 we are again refreshing our curriculum continuing to teach all our children through topics. Our aim is to give children ownership of their learning by allowing them to choose topics and direct their learning through topics and themes that interest and engage them. We have our own nature garden, allotments, garden & cooking room and art room which allow children to be creative in their learning. In January 2008 we welcomed chickens to our school; the children look after them, collect the eggs and use the eggs in their cooking lessons.

Food and nutrition is massively important to us. We have twice been short-listed for the Education Catering 'Self-Managed school of the Year'.  We are one of a handful of schools in Haringey to run our own kitchens, employing our own cook and produce all our meals from fresh, organic produce. In acknowledgement of our work around promoting healthy living we are the only London school to achieve a Gold Food for Life Award.

There is of course much more to Chestnuts Primary school than I can explain in this introduction. Why don't you have a look round our website, I hope you find the information on the site useful, see some of the adults who work in the school and find out more information about how we are working with children, families and the wider community. If you can’t find the information you are looking for on our website please do not hesitate to contact us via the contacts links.
