Maureen Duncan - Executive Head Teacher's welcome to Chestnuts Primary School
I joined Chestnuts in January 2017 as the Executive Head Teacher. My remit is to look after the school for the Spring term whilst the Governing Body finalise the appointment of a new Head Teacher who will hopefully start after Easter 2017. I have many years experience of running local community schools with a specialism in Special Educational Needs. I know how wonderful Chestnuts is and what a centre of the community it has become. My job is to sustain this brilliant learning environment and the culture of loving learning.
I hope you find the information on the website useful but please don't hesitate to contact me if you require further information.

Chestnuts is a two form entry primary school in Haringey North London. Our school website aims to give you a taster of the school, as well as providing regular updated information for parents, friends, pupils and staff.
At Chestnuts we are fully committed to working with parents to give children the very best start in their education as well as supporting children to be well-rounded individuals and good citizens in the future. We have high expectations of everyone in our community ensuring we effectively work together to ensure children reach their potential in all areas of their personal development and learning.
Parental involvement is a massive part of our school. We like and look forward to adults coming into the school to share their skills, knowledge and experiences. We hold regular weekend community events; we have an incredibly supportive Parent School Association.
At Chestnuts we are not afraid to try new and exciting initiatives. In September 2014 we started the New International Primary Curriculum which sees us continuing to teach all our children through topics. Our aim is to give children ownership of their learning by allowing them, as much as possible, to direct their learning through topics and themes that interest and engage them. We have our own nature garden, allotments, garden & cooking room and art room which allow children to be creative in their learning. At Chestnuts we believe that children deserve and thrive on excitement in their learning, they learn best through having a wide range of opportunities that make their learning experience irresistible. We therefore offer weekly swimming lessons with our own qualified swimming instructor, weekly music lessons delivered in small groups by a music specialist teacher, weekly cooking and gardening lessons alongside other curriculum subjects such as ICT, PE and Modern Foreign Languages
Food and nutrition is massively important to us. In 2013/14 we were awarded Education Catering 'Self-Managed school of the Year', having been short-listed for awards every year for the last four years. We are one of a handful of schools in Haringey to run our own kitchens, employing our own cook and producing all our meals from fresh ingredients, using organic produce where possible. In acknowledgement of our work around promoting healthy living we are one of only two London school to achieve a Gold Food for Life Award.
There is of course much more to Chestnuts Primary school than I can explain in this introduction. Why don't you have a look round our website, I hope you find the information on the site useful, see some of the adults who work in the school and find out more information about how we are working with children, families and the wider community. If you can’t find the information you are looking for on our website please do not hesitate to contact us via the contacts links.
